Development of a Drag-Free Control System
نویسنده
چکیده
A Drag-Free Control (DFC) system is a necessity for all future space-borne gravitational wave missions such as LISA, and similar technology is needed on other missions where high positional accuracy is required. The DFC system is needed to control the motion of the spacecraft that are required for the construction of a giant Michelson interferometer, which can be used to detect gravitational waves. Prior to this a technology demonstator mission is needed to test the feasibility of a drag-free spacecraft. This paper defines the requirements of the associated hardware (i.e. accelerometers, FEEP thrusters etc.) to be used in such a mission and details the control algorithms needed for the control computer such that a DFC system can be implemented and enable the required DFC performance of at least ≈10 ms.Hz to be acheived.

Gravimetry is improved by a long-distance formation as in the GRACE mission, by making each satellite drag-free as in the GOCE mission and by disposing of a high-accuracy long-distance measurement like that provided by laser
The paper outlines orbit and attitude control problems of a long-distance two-satellite drag-free formation for the Earth gravity monitoring. Modeling and control design follows the Embedded Model Control and shows how disturbance dynamics and rejection are mandatory. Orbit and attitude control can be treated separately except in the thrust dispatching law of the all-propulsion actuation. Orbit...

Aerodynamic drag is an important factor in vehicles fuel consumption. Pressure drag which is the main component of total drag is a result of boundary layer separation from vehicle surface. Flow control methods are applied to avoid or at least delay separation. Depending upon whether these methods consume energy to control the flow or not, they are called active or passive control methods. In th...

متن کاملNumerical Investigation on the Effect of Tunnel Height on Drag Reduction in a High Speed Trimaran
There are different methods to reduce drag in high speed hulls. One of these methods is a change in the shape of the body by adding longitudinal side tunnels. In this paper it has been attempted to determine the influence of the tunnel height on hydrodynamic characteristics of the hull to achieving an optimum shape for the tunnel. To achieve this purpose, numerical simulation of the problem has...
